There are no levels here, no high scores and no controllers. Instead: ponies that want to be fed, hay to jump into, and goats that are remarkably uninterested in video games.
There's always something happening at the stable. Grandpa Toni shows the kids how to lead the ponies and care for the animals. Feed the goats, play in the hay — and anyone who wants can borrow a pony for a walk together.

Read moreDer Stern is not a classic working farm — but a lot of it feels exactly like one. Feeding animals, leading ponies, playing in the hay, being outdoors and right next to the stable, meadow and nature — that's exactly what families experience here. For many it's the most enjoyable mix of family hotel and farm feel, without the constraints of a true farm holiday.
Children can meet ponies, goats, rabbits and other animals, feed them and spend time at the stable in a relaxed way. Grandpa Toni shows them how to lead the ponies and care for the animals — daily, no booking required, just come along. In summer from 5 pm, in winter from 4 pm, Grandpa Toni feeds the animals and all children may help. On selected dates a pony can be borrowed for a walk — we saddle it and give the necessary tips. Sundays there's guided pony riding. Plus hay, meadows and lots of space around the house. Exactly the kind of experience that stays with kids — and needs no programme.
Yes, very much. A short break works well at Der Stern because so much is possible right on site and you don't have to plan big day trips. In three nights: feed the ponies with Grandpa Toni, an afternoon at the indoor pool, animals in the meadow, good food in the evening — and often the feeling that it was too short. Short stays are possible from 2 nights — except around New Year's Eve. Anyone staying longer benefits from time discounts: 10 % from 7 nights, 15 % from 10 nights.
Yes. Around Der Stern there is a lot to do without it ever getting loud or hectic. Children find their way outside immediately — to the animals, the meadow, the treehouse or the adventure barn with rope course, climbing wall and racetrack — while grown-ups enjoy the relaxed togetherness. The big living room in the new Herzstück, the chestnut garden with trees over 130 years old and the rooftop terrace with mountain views are the retreats for parents. This mix of freedom for the kids and quiet for the parents makes the place special. Der Stern is right on the Fernpass main road — you'll notice that on arrival. What you don't notice once inside or on the grounds: any of it. The house and the large outdoor area — meadow, stable, adventure barn, indoor pool — are at the back and shielded from traffic noise.
Yes. The eco indoor pool "Sternentaucher" is part of Der Stern for many families. It offers warm water, its own children's pool, cosy family alcoves to retreat to and everything that's fun: slide, white-water channel and bubble bench. Open daily from 8 am to 9:30 pm, the attractions run from 10 am to 7 pm. The pool ideally complements time outdoors — especially on cooler days or when the kids still have energy after the stable.
At Der Stern you get Stern Indulgence Time: breakfast buffet with regional specialities and fresh bread from the baker next door, in summer a picnic to take away, in winter an afternoon snack, kids' lunch in the Sternchen Club, and in the evening a multi-course dinner from buffet and show kitchen — honestly cooked, regionally inspired. Plus a water bar all day and evening drinks included: DIY lemonade and spritz bar, regional fruit juices, draft craft beer, organic espresso from the small local roaster. Anyone booking with breakfast only still has full access to the indoor pool, adventure barn, stable and all experiences — meals are then taken in the inn.
Yes. By train to Telfs-Pfaffenhofen station or Ötztal-Bahnhof — we'll pick you up free of charge. About 2 hours from Munich, about 4 hours from Vienna, about 2.5 hours from Zurich, and only about 20 minutes from Innsbruck. Anyone arriving by train gets 5 % off the stay, the full mobility package on site, and can use mountain bikes, buggy, child carrier and lots more free of charge. There are also free regional buses on site — no car needed.
Yes — and that's one reason why many families come to Der Stern especially during the shoulder seasons or outside the school holidays. The eco indoor pool, the adventure barn with rope course, climbing wall and racetrack, the big living room in the Herzstück and the Sternchen Club run in any weather. Children don't need sunshine to have a good day — and parents don't either.
